We have worked extensively and previously with our partners Conflict Rescue on the evacuation of non-governmental organisations from Gaza and foreign nationals. In our predecessor at the Presidium Network, we assisted in the evacuation of children, namely orphans, and facilitated medical aid to civilians and hospitals. Over the last week, we have seen a rise in the need for medical intervention of vulnerable persons in Gaza.
We have successful experience in the process and cooperation required to "manifest" people for evacuation as well as the safety around the movement of people within Gaza for the purpose of exiting the area.
Within the first 24 hours of awareness we have engaged with medical support teams within Gaza as well as international stakeholders to determine hospitals that would be willing to treat injured civilians with a focus on children, the elderly and disabled on a priority basis.
This program is a hybrid between a campaign and a relief initiative, as it requires extensive coordination with stakeholders within Gaza, Israel and countries willing to provide medical assistance. As such there are costs associated with relief and the movement of persons as well as coordination.
We have commenced work immediately to establish the procedures for critical medical evacuation as well as identifying partner hospitals (international), exit procedures, visa process to treatment nation, as well as constant interaction with medical teams within Gaza.
We are working as rapidly and professionally as we can - the objective of any medical intervention for civilians is to focus on the delivery or access to life saving intervention and needs to be carried out with neutrality.
The cases are handled on a priority basis on the complexity of treatment required, the urgency and the age/risk profile of the patient.
Emergency evacuations to third countries are procedural as it requires multi-party authorisations for 'exit and entry' while also being conscious of associated risks in patient transport and limitations of 'non-permissive environments'.
